Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are currently down for some users

Facebook and several other Meta-owned platforms appear to have gone down worldwide, leaving millions of users unable to access their accounts.

Earlier today (12 June), websites such as Downdetector began to notice a spike in users reporting error messages when trying to access the social media app on its web and mobile sites.

Meanwhile, users have also noticed issues when accessing Instagram and the WhatsApp desktop feature.

Meta is yet to address the issue.

Issues with Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp appear to be global

According to downforeveryoneorjustme, the issue is not just in the UK but also worldwide, with users from the Philippines, Canada, the USA, Australia and India all reporting issues when trying to access their accounts.

As of 2pm, around 21,000 users reported that they were unable to use the platform, with ‘Inaccessible’ and ‘Error received’ being the most reported actions.

Meanwhile, Instagram and WhatsApp have both seen respective spikes of users unable to access, with similar issues being reported as the reason.

In the meantime, users have flocked to X, one of the few social media platforms currently working, to what people always do in situations like this: make jokes about it.

Meta responds to the issue

Meta has now spoken about the issue, as access to the platform begins to be restored for users across the world, with communications officer Andy Stone sharing the following statement on X: “We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it.”
