Jake Gyllenhaal has opened up about why filming intimate scenes with Jennifer Aniston felt like \u2018torture\u2019, describing the experience as \u2018mechanical\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, he has become one of Hollywood\u2019s biggest stars, appearing in major movies including\u00a0Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac,\u00a0<\/em>andSpider-Man: Far From Home<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Gyllenhaal has taken on countless memorablej roles throughout his career, he admitted that some experiences on set proved more challenging than others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A memorable early career role<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Back in the early stages of his acting career, Gyllenhaal starred opposite Friends<\/em> actress Jennifer Aniston in the 2002 romantic comedy The Good Girl<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The movie centers on Justine (Aniston), a retail worker stuck in an unhappy personal life, who forms a bond with her younger coworker Holden (Gyllenhaal). The pair quickly develop a connection through their shared dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Years later, Gyllenhaal admitted that working so closely with Aniston wasn\u2019t exactly easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Stern questioned what it was like working with Aniston, Gyllenhaal replied: \u201cOh yeah, it was torture, yes it was. But it was also not torture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why intimate scenes felt awkward<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gyllenhaal went on to explain why filming romantic scenes can feel uncomfortable on set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: \u201cWeirdly, love scenes are awkward because there are maybe 30,50 people watching it? That doesn\u2019t turn me on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s oddly mechanical. And also it\u2019s a dance, you\u2019re choreographing for a camera. You can get in it but it\u2019s like a fight scene, you have to choreograph those scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actor also recalled the specific method used while filming intimate moments in The Good Girl<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Gyllenhaal, \u201cThe pillow technique was used, that was just preemptive and used generally always when actually in a horizontal place in that movie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued: \u201cI think that was actually a Jennifer suggestion, she was very kind to suggest it before we began. She was like, \u2018I\u2019m putting a pillow here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His longtime crush on Jennifer Aniston<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Part of what made the experience especially difficult was Gyllenhaal\u2019s longtime admiration for Aniston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actress, who has frequently been named one of the world\u2019s most beautiful women, had apparently caught his attention long before they worked together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to People magazine, Gyllenhaal explained that his crush wasn\u2019t necessarily because of Friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot so much Friends, but kind of her personality from afar, and movies she was in,\u201d he said. \u201cI will say, I had a crush on her for years. And working with her was not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of filming The Good Girl<\/em>, Aniston was 33 while Gyllenhaal was still in his early twenties, which likely added to the awkwardness on set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real reason filming felt like torture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Although Gyllenhaal joked about the experience being \u201ctorture,\u201d the real challenge came from having to film intimate scenes with someone he had admired for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aniston later reacted to the actor\u2019s comments during an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laughing off the revelation, she responded: \u201cWhat do I do with that information now? What good does that do me now? I love that boy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
